About the festival

Adane-Okpe is the rallying festival of the Okpe people, held at Orerokpe, the seat of the Orodje of Okpe. It recalls the meeting of the four Okpe founding brothers, Esezi, Evbreke, Orhoro and Orhue, after their ancestor's migration from Benin.

Its high point is the masquerade display in the festival arena. The festival is about cleansing and renewal for the whole kingdom, and it ends in feasting. Only men take part in the rites.

Dates aren't published online ahead of time. Check with the Okpe Kingdom, and follow your hosts' guidance on which rites visitors can watch.
